The Ravelston Corporation Limited (“RCL"") was the entity through which Conrad Black held his interest in the Hollinger Group, which held interests in entities owning and operating various newspapers around the world.
We acted as CCAA Monitor, Court-appointed Receiver and Trustee in Bankruptcy of RCL. A focus of the mandate was the cross-border litigation claims involving the Hollinger Group, and its principal, Mr. Black, including claims from US shareholders and Canadian and US regulators. We also dealt with the US Department of Justice in its criminal proceedings against RCL, Mr. Black and others. The litigation was resolved pursuant to various multi-party settlement agreements that we negotiated and which were ultimately approved by the Canadian and US Courts.
